Covid NI: Two further coronavirus related deaths and 113 cases reported by DoH

The Department of Health has today reported two further coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update from the Department, one death occurred within the current reporting period and one outside of it.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 2,125, says the DoH.

Friday's dashboard also reports a further 113 positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of positive cases to 118,032 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department say 553 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 99 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 10 in intensive care, according to the DoH.

Meanwhile, Jet2 has suspended flights and holidays until late June due to a "lack of clarity" on restarting international travel.

The company, which flies from Belfast International Airport, said it was "extremely disappointed at the lack of clarity and detail" as the Global Travel Taskforce’s framework was released.

Recommendations include the launch of a new traffic light system and 'green watchlist', and the introduction of travel certification.

The report, produced by the Global Travel Taskforce, states international travel could resume from May 17, 2021, at the earliest, in an accessible and affordable way.

This includes the removal of the permission to travel form - meaning passengers would no longer need to prove they have a valid reason to leave the country.

But Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy said it "lacks any rigorous detail about how to get international travel going again".
