Covid NI: Total of 163 people test positive for Covid-19 in past 24 hours

The Department of Health has reported a further three coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, all of the fatalities occurred within the current reporting period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 2,066, according to the DoH.

Thursday's dashboard update also reports a further 163 positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of positive cases to 113,169 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 1,305 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 257 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 29 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland's Covid vaccination programme is making excellent progress, the Department of Health said on Wednesday.

But Patricia Donnelly, who heads the country's vaccination programme warned the ability to get a first vaccination when the second dose regime gets underway, will "not be as easy".

And she advised those eligible to book their first slot asap.

She said the programme has added a number of new cohorts in recent weeks with the majority of those aged 65 and over already been given the first jab.
