Covid NI: Three further deaths and 1,548 positive cases reported

Three further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Sunday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,924.

A further 1,548 positive Covid cases have also been recorded in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 340,028 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

The full dashboard is not set to be updated until Monday, December 13 but in a tweet, the DoH said that 3,203,049 vaccines have been administered in total.

Meanwhile, the enforcement of domestic Covid-19 vaccination certificates will begin on Monday, December 13.

Covid certification requires proof of full vaccination status, or a negative Lateral Flow Test in the previous 48 hours, or proof of recovery from a positive PCR test in the previous 30 – 180 days.

Four of the five Stormont Executive parties voted in favour of the scheme proposed by Health Minister Robin Swann.

DUP ministers voted against it, describing the initiative as a “distraction” that would have marginal impact.

Domestic certificates were introduced on November 29 and will be enforceable on December 13.
