Covid NI: Three further deaths and 1,424 positive cases reported

Three further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Saturday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,447.

The three fatalities are said to have occurred during the current 24 hour reporting period.

A further 1,424 positive Covid cases have also been recorded in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 216,881 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

The full dashboard is not set to be updated until Monday but in a tweet, the DoH said that 2,489,473 vaccines have been administered in total.

According to figures released on Friday, the Department there are currently 461 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 43 in intensive care.

It comes as one of Belfast's iconic music venues is transformed into a walk-in vaccine centre this weekend, with free concert tickets for the first people to turn up and get jabbed.

The Limelight on Ormeau Avenue has become Northern Ireland's latest temporary vaccination clinic, and anyone over the age of 16 will be welcome to come and get their first vaccine.

Operated by Belfast Trust vaccinator team, the clinics will be open from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, September 11, and from midday to 6pm on Sunday, September 12.

No appointment is required, but ID will be needed.

Head of the NI vaccination programme Patricia Donnelly said: "I am delighted that the Limelight has been added to our rolling programme of walk-in clinics.

"Offering jabs at such an iconic location will complement ongoing efforts to boost vaccine take-up.

"My sincere thanks go to the Limelight's management for facilitating these weekend clinics."

Meanwhile, Monday will see the start of the Jabbathon vaccine take-up initiative for students, involving around 60 walk-in clinics across some 30 Further and Higher Education campuses.
