Covid NI: Five further deaths and under 1,000 new positive cases confirmed

The Department of Health's latest dashboard update shows that there have been five further coronavirus related deaths recorded in Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours.

The latest figures also show that 889 individuals tested positive for the virus in the same time period.

A total of 2,505,607 vaccines have now been administered in total - an increase of 604 from yesterday.

It comes as Northern Ireland is set to follow England in implementing changes to international travel rules.

A key change is the scrapping of the traffic light system, that separated countries into green, amber, or red lists depending on the level of coronavirus risk attached to travelling there.

As well as this, PCR tests will no longer be needed for those who are fully vaccinated.

These changes will begin to come into force in Northern Ireland from Monday, October 4.
