Covid NI: Slight rise in new cases but no further deaths reported

No further coronavirus related deaths have been reported by the Department of Health today.

The death toll from coronavirus in Northern Ireland remains at 2,129, says the DoH.

The number of deaths over the last seven days has fallen by one compared with the previous seven day period - from nine to eight. Of those who have died after contracting the virus throughout the pandemic, 1,007 were female and 1,121 male.

Monday's dashboard also shows that a further 97 positive cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed, bringing the total number of positive cases to 118,364 since the pandemic began.

The department's figures show that a total 717 individuals have tested positive for the virus in NI in the last seven days.

Currently, 84 Covid-19 confirmed patients are being treated in hospital, eight of whom are in ICU, with six on ventilators.

Today a number of restrictions introduced to curb the spread of the virus have been relaxed. All schoolchildren returned to the classroom, while up to 10 people, including kids, can now meet in a private garden.

Click & collect services are also allowed from non-essential retailers, while outdoor businesses such as car showrooms and garden centres are permitted to open.

Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill said this morning that she is 'hopeful' further reopening dates will be agreed by the Northern Ireland Executive this week.

"I am hopeful that all the indicators are good and by Thursday we'll be able to give dates," she told BBC Good Morning Ulster.

"There's been a number of proposals put forward by different departments. We are working our way through that."
