Covid NI: Six further deaths and 1,291 positive cases reported

Six further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,675.

Four fatalities are said to have occurred during the current reporting period, and two outside of it.

A further 1,291 positive Covid cases have also been recorded in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 270,621 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 8,389 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

According to figures released on Wednesday, there are currently 345 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 33 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, from October 31, nightclubs will be allowed to reopen. Indoor dancing will also be permitted across all venues.

Maintaining a social distance of at least 1 metre will no longer be a legal requirement in pubs, bars, restaurants and other hospitality settings.

This means people will be allowed to move around venues freely and will be able to drink or eat food while standing up.

Social distancing will still be advised as guidance.

Nightclubs and other hospitality venues will not be legally required to ask customers for proof they have had the Covid vaccine or a negative lateral flow test.

But Health Minister Robin Swann has urged clubs to consider using vaccine certification as an entry requirement.

Speaking on Saturday, he stressed that face coverings are still mandatory on public transport, in shops and in crowded public spaces - including in any indoor area of a shopping centre.
