Covid NI: Postcodes recording highest number of new positive cases in last week

Six further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Monday, according to the Department of Health.

The Department also recorded a further 2,706 positive Covid cases in Northern Ireland today.

It brings the total number of positive cases to 462,870 since the start of the pandemic, according to the DoH.

The latest figures also show that there is currently 387 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 31 in intensive care.

From January 3 to January 9, the Northern Ireland postcodes recording the highest number of Covid-19 cases were:

  • BT48 - Derry - 1,918
  • BT47 - Derry/Dungiven - 1522
  • BT34 - Kilkeel/Rathfriland/Warrenpoint - 1,518
  • BT35 - Newry/Bessbrook - 1,289
  • BT71 - Dungannon - 1,180
  • BT36 - Newtownabbey - 885
  • BT23 - Newtownards - 771
  • BT14 - West/North Belfast - 750
  • BT41 - Antrim - 747
  • BT17 - Dunmurry - 746
  • Meanwhile, a number of Northern Ireland schools have announced that some year groups will have to return to remote learning this week due to staff pressures.

    It comes as the Education Minister Michelle McIlveen is expected to outline plans to keep children safe in schools amid the latest surge of Covid-19 cases in the community at a plenary sitting of the Stormont Assembly later on Monday.

    Ms McIlveen has said she wants schools here to remain open.
