Covid NI: One further coronavirus related death and 80 positive cases recorded

The Department of Health has recorded one further coronavirus related death.

The fatality did not occur within the current reporting period, says the DoH.

According to the latest update, the death toll from the DoH now stands at 2,154.

Thursday's dashboard also reports a further 80 positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of positive cases to 122,895 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 488 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 17 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and one in intensive care.

Meanwhile, a popular buffet restaurant in Belfast has been forced to close just days after reopening due to government Covid restrictions.

Cosmo Belfast, which is located in Victoria Square, said that they were closed by Belfast City Council due to strict rules around table service and self-service at restaurants.

Beginning on May 24, indoor hospitality, including pubs and restaurants, were allowed to reopen in Northern Ireland, but with strict mitigations including table service only.

Retail NI had previously hit out at the decision, saying that it would make things very difficult for certain restaurants, cafes and eateries.

Due to the buffet nature of Cosmo, the restaurant has said that they've had to temporarily close until restrictions are lifted.
