Covid NI: No deaths reported by Department of Health

The Department of Health has reported no further coronavirus related deaths.

The death toll in Northern Ireland stands at 2,100, according to the DoH.

The Department also states that 161 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Yesterday's dashboard update stated there were 18 patients in intensive care with Covid-19 and 14 of these were using ventilators.

Meanwhile, police will not hesitate to "take robust action" if people are flouting coronavirus restrictions on St Patrick's Day, ACC Alan Todd has warned.

In a press briefing ahead of the PSNI's March 17 operation, he also revealed that hundreds more officers will be deployed across Northern Ireland and the public "can expect to see more police in more places".

ACC Todd is leading the operation, which will be supported by command and control centres at hotspots in every corner of Northern Ireland, as well as at public transport hubs.

He said: "We do have policing challenges on St Patrick's Day in normal circumstances.

"Clearly we want people to enjoy it, but we need them to do that in a safe manner. Stay at home if possible, stay in social bubbles and if they are going out - not flock to beauty spots and resorts because if everybody does that... it will be a challenge for us all."
