Covid NI: Four further deaths and 1,819 positive cases reported

Four further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Thursday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,916.

The fatalities are said to have occurred during the current reporting period.

A further 1,819 positive Covid cases have also been recorded in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 335,228 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 12,281 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

According to figures released on Thursday, there are currently 338 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 38 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Robin Swann has announced the next phase of the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccine booster programme.

From next Wednesday, December 15, those in the 40-49 age group who are three months since their second dose will be able to book their booster using the online system.

And from today they can also book or attend a community pharmacy for a booster, or attend a Health Trust vaccination hub, which have some availability of walk-in slots at this stage.

The announcement comes with Northern Ireland’s vaccination programme approaching the half million mark for boosters and third doses administered.
