Covid NI: Five further deaths recorded by Department of Health

Five further Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded in Northern Ireland by the Department of Health.

The department's daily dashboard update reveals that the deaths have all taken place within the past 24 hours.

Latest DoH figures show the death toll from coronavirus now stands at 2,041.

A total of 225 new cases of the virus were also reported, bringing the total number of diagnosed cases in NI since the pandemic began to 111,391.

The Belfast area has seen the highest number of new cases in the past 24 hours with 47, followed by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon with 36 and Lisburn and Mid Ulster with 27.

The latest figures also show that in the past seven days 1,929 people have contracted the virus.

A total of 376 people are now being treated in NI hospitals with Covid-19 - 333 of whom were admitted in the past 14 days. During the same period 586 patients have been discharged.

The Southern Trust has 127 patients, Belfast 98, Northern 73, South Eastern 37 and Western 41.

There are 48 patients in intensive care with Covid-19, with 39 of these using ventilators.

Northern Irish Hospitals are currently at 99% bed occupancy with 35 unoccupied beds.
