Covid NI: Five further deaths and over 870 cases reported

Five further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Monday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,199.

The fatalities are recorded to have occurred during the current reporting period.

A further 872 positive Covid cases have been recorded in Northern Ireland on Monday.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 158,389 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 8,525 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

According to figures released on Monday, there are currently 202 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 34 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland international travel rule changes come into effect on Monday.

From August 2, those who have been fully vaccinated in the US and the EU will not have to isolate when arriving in Northern Ireland from an amber list country.

They will still however need to book and take a day two test.

These travellers must have had their final dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before arrival in Northern Ireland.

This is a pilot roll out of the expansion of the amber vaccinated arrivals policy to include people vaccinated in any of the EU27 - EFTA countries, but excludes France.

It also includes the European microstate countries - Andorra, Monaco and Vatican City, and the US.
