A further 1,875 Covid-19 cases have been recorded across Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours.

The data released by the Department of Health (DoH) on Friday afternoon, August 27, brings the total number of positive cases to 195,433 since the start of the pandemic.

Five more Covid-related deaths were also reported, with the death toll from the DoH now standing at 2,337.

10,320 individuals have been confirmed Covid -positive in Northern Ireland over the past seven days.

There are currently 383 Covid-confirmed patients in hospital and 45 in intensive care, according to the figures.

2,434,651vaccines have now been administered in total.

These statistics come as ICU doctors continue to urge everybody to get vaccinated.

Dr Brian McCloskey, a Belfast consultant who treats coronavirus patients in ICU, said he hasn't met one who regretted not having their vaccine.

The ICU consultant told Belfast Live: "I haven't met anyone who hasn't regretted that decision not to get vaccinated. It might have been because they just weren't aware of the benefits and so on but most people who get sick and come into hospital wish they'd been vaccinated."

Dr McCloskey says generally, he 'hasn't seen anyone who's been vaccinated that's young come to intensive care'.
