Covid NI: Five further deaths and 1,771 positive cases reported

Five further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Monday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,328.

A further 1,771 positive Covid cases have also been recorded.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 192,008 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 11,917 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

According to figures released on Wednesday, there are currently 388 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 43 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, a Northern Ireland GP is being investigated over her comments about coronavirus vaccines.

Dr Anne McCloskey, who came out of retirement when the pandemic hit, took to social media on Sunday to share a video in which she expressed a series of "anti vaccine" views following shifts at an out-of-hours centre over the weekend.

Later on Tuesday, the Health and Social Care Board issued a statement in which they said they "can confirm that it has suspended Dr McCloskey as a precautionary measure while it undertakes a full investigation regarding complaints and concerns raised against this doctor".

A spokesman added: "Suspension is not an automatic occurrence when undertaking an investigation but may be necessary where there are concerns regarding patient safety and in the public interest.

"Dr McCloskey is not free to work for HSC organisations during her suspension."

Earlier it was reported that the GP said most of the patients she saw had been double jabbed against coronavirus, before going on to describe coronavirus vaccines as "experimental drug therapy" and claiming they are "killing people" while "not preventing sickness".
