Covid NI: Fewer than 80 new cases and no further deaths recorded by DoH

The Department of Health says there has been no further Covid-19 related deaths again today.

While there have been no dashboard updates over the weekend since May 1, the Department of Health has been releasing some statistics on social media.

It revealed on Sunday that in the past 24 hours, there had been 77 new positive cases of coronavirus and no further deaths.

It comes as a total of 1,624,053 vaccines have been administered across Northern Ireland.

On Friday there were 34 Covid-19 confirmed inpatients in hospital and two in intensive care.

The Covid-19 Dashboard will be updated in full on Monday 24 May 2021.

For the first time in months, bars, restaurants, cafés and hotels across Northern Ireland will be able to welcome customers back indoors again on Monday.

People can also now avail of free home testing kits which health chiefs say will be a crucial element in the pandemic response.

Health Minister Robin Swann met with the Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Childminder Association (NICMA), Patricia Lewsley-Mooney and a childminder who is using the home testing model last week.

He said following that meeting: "It is estimated that 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 have no recognisable symptoms of the disease. To combat this, rapid asymptomatic testing is being carried out in many sectors across Northern Ireland including schools, public transport, healthcare and business.

"This type of testing uses lateral flow devices to provide a result within approximately 30 minutes, without the need for any lab testing.

"It is not only large employers or businesses that can be tested. Individuals who provide face to face services such as childminders, hairdressers and driving instructors can also benefit from regular asymptomatic testing."
