Covid NI: Eight further deaths and over 1,100 positive cases in past 24 hours

There have been eight further covid-19 related deaths reported in the past 24 hours according to the Department of Health.

The department has issued an update on the number of new coronavirus cases, saying that 1,177 have been recorded in the past day.

Following the eight further deaths, the death toll in Northern Ireland from the virus now stands at 2,189.

Since the pandemic began, 156,445 people have tested positive for the virus.

The vaccine rollout is beginning to slow down, with a total of 2,255,519 being administered so far.

Regional vaccine centres in Northern Ireland will no longer be providing first doses to certain groups of people from tomorrow.

On Friday, July 30, certain Covid restrictions were relaxed by the Northern Ireland Executive including reduced social distancing in shops, no noise restriction at concerts and reopening of function rooms and community halls.

From August 2, there will be a pilot roll out of the expansion of the amber vaccinated arrivals policy to include people vaccinated in any of the EU27 (except France); EFTA countries (Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein); and the European microstate countries (Andorra, Monaco, and Vatican City) and the United States.

International cruises will restart in line with the traffic light system from July 31.

Rules will still be in place to reduce the risk of Covid transmission. At live music venues, for example, entry to performances will be by ticket only. Two-metre social distancing will be encouraged as well as the use of lateral flow tests.
