Covid NI: Eight further deaths and over 1,000 cases reported

Eight further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Monday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,228.

The fatalities are said to have occurred during the current reporting period.

A further 1,031 positive Covid cases have also been recorded in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 167,095 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 8,974 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

According to figures released on Monday, there are currently 245 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 41 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, as CHSq 2021 gets ready to kick off on Tuesday with its sold-out Tom Jones event, organisers have announced the launch of a pop-up vaccination centre with the opportunity to win free tickets for those receiving their first dose.

From August 10, the pop-up clinic located in Custom House Square will run on event days from 10am to 3.30pm and on Tuesday's launch day, the first 50 people have the chance to receive a complimentary pair of tickets to the show of their choice.

A statement from the festival read: "CHSq Festival has announced it will be facilitating a pop-up Covid-19 Vaccination Clinic, managed by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust at Custom House Square this August.

"The clinic will run on CHSq event days from 10am to 3.30pm.

"The clinic will be open to all adults aged 16 or above who have not yet received a first dose. Those who attend will be given the Pfizer vaccine and will need to receive a second dose, 8 weeks following their first. Details will be available on NI Direct/SETrust websites.

"In addition, on launch day of the pop-up clinic, Tues 10th August, the first 50 people to receive their first vaccine dose will receive a complimentary pair of tickets to a CHSq show of their choice."
