Covid NI: DoH report over 2,500 further positive cases and three deaths in last 24 hours

A further 2,518 positive Covid cases have been recorded in Northern Ireland on Sunday.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 480,332 since the start of the pandemic.

There were also three further coronavirus-related deaths reported by the Department of Health.

The death toll from the DoH now stands at 3,038.

The full dashboard is not set to be updated until Monday, January 17, but in a tweet, the Department said that 3,619,04 vaccines have been administered in total.

Meanwhile, those jetting on a winter break to Tenerife are in for some changes as a popular destination has changed its restrictions.

Tenerife has implemented tighter restrictions this week after the island upgraded its Covid alert to level four, which means very high risk, on Monday after a surge of cases.

Coming into effect from this week, the Canary Island’s newly increased rules include pubs and restaurants shutting at midnight and public transport being capped at 75 percent capacity, according to the official Spanish government website.

A maximum of six people are now allowed to meet (either indoors or outdoors), nightclubs are capped at 25 percent capacity, and vaccine passports must be shown to enter some indoor venues," RSVP reports.

Spas, jacuzzis and saunas must now remain closed, while outdoor pools operate at 33 percent of capacity and beaches at 50 percent and “a prior appointment may be required” for some venues, according to the islands’ safety measures.

The measures come in response to a surge in Omicron cases and will be in place until at least January 24, when the local government will review them.
