Covid NI: Department of Health records one further death and 69 positive cases

One further coronavirus related death has been reported by the Department of Health today.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Northern Ireland now stands at 2,146, according to DoH's latest update.

While there will be no official updates to the dashboard until Tuesday, May 4, figures tweeted by the Department on Sunday afternoon show that 69 more cases of the virus have been diagnosed in the past 24 hours.

They also said one more Covid-19 related death has been recorded.

It comes as Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride has urged everyone in Northern Ireland to enjoy the May Day bank holiday weekend safely.

With further Covid-19 restrictions being eased on Friday he said the public health advice remains as vital as ever.

“With summer coming and the vaccination programme continuing its roll out, there is a much-needed mood of optimism in the community," he added.

“However, we must never underestimate the Covid-19 threat. A huge collective effort across society has got us this far. It would be a tragedy if we let our guard down now and jeopardised the progress that has been made."
