Covid NI: Department of Health records no further Covid related deaths and 64 positive cases

No further coronavirus related deaths have been reported by the Department of Health today.

According to DoH's latest update, the death toll from coronavirus in Northern Ireland remains at 2,146.

While there will be no official updates to the dashboard until tomorrow (May 4), the Department of Health shared figures on Twitter this afternoon and stated that 64 more cases of the virus have been diagnosed in the past 24 hours.

They also said no more Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded.

Last week, Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride reminded everyone to stay safe over the bank holiday weekend ahead of the reopening of outdoor hospitality, all non-essential retail and gyms on Friday.

Dr McBride explained: “With summer coming and the vaccination programme continuing its roll out, there is a much-needed mood of optimism in the community."

He stressed the importance of not underestimating the threat of coronavirus while restrictions begin to ease as it would be a "tragedy" if the collective effort was forgotten and "jeopardised the progress that has been made".

He said: “We all know what needs to be done.

"Whether you are socialising or shopping, stick to the rules that have protected so many people. Maintain social distancing, wear a face covering when required and wash hands frequently and well.”

The full Covid-19 Dashboard will be updated on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
