
More than 5 million people have now received their second dose of a Covid vaccine in the UK, figures show.
Prime minister Boris Johnson said another milestone in the vaccination programme had been reached, and urged everyone “to take up their second dose as soon as they are offered it”.
The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has confirmed that seven people in the UK have died from rare blood clots after receiving the AstraZeneca coronavirus jab - but stressed that this is out of 18.1 million doses administered up to and including 24 March.
The agency is urging people to continue taking the AstraZeneca jab, adding that it was unclear if the shots are causing the clots and that its “rigorous review into the UK reports of rare and specific types of blood clots is ongoing”.
