Coronavirus Scotland: Covid 'massively better by March' says top Scots Government expert

The coronavirus crisis will be significantly improved by the spring, a leading academic advising the Scottish Government insists.

Professor Devi Sridhar says the next few months will tough, but we can look forward to improved conditions in the spring of 2021.

She took to Twitter to point out: "Next four months will be rough but covid situation will be massively better by March because of promising vaccines, better testing and treatments and increased understanding of transmission."

Prof Sridhar is an expert in public health and sits on the Scottish Government's Covid-19 Advisory Group.

And she urged the the public to keep the faith, adding: "Hold out for the spring- it is hard now but getting outside and feeling connected to others can help."

Her message comes just days after pharmaceutical giant Pfizer confirmed it has developed a vaccine that's shown to be 90 per cent effective in trials.

The NHS has been advised to prepare for roll out of the first batch in early December, if it given approval by UK regulators.
