Covid law update issued to shoppers after stores reopened

Don't get caught out and risk a big fine this week.

Shoppers are being warned to remember that some lockdown rules and laws are still in place and that they could be at risk of receiving a fine while enjoying some of the new found freedoms introduced this week.

As the rules relaxed on Monday and pubs and restaurants returned with outside service, while shops reopened for the first time in months, Nottingham streets began to buzz again.

Queues formed outside shops such a Primark, Debenhams, John Lewis and Zara yesterday and while it may feel like a little normality has returned, it is important to remember not everything is as it once was.

It is still against the law to meet anybody from outside your household or bubble indoors. What that means for shoppers is that while it is fine for you to go to the shops with people from outside your existing household or bubble and queue up to enter, you should remember that once inside a store the rules remain the same and you cannot shop together without risking a fine, or worse, a criminal record, reported Manchester Evening News.

So, be aware that while you can queue for a shop outside with friends and family who are not in your household and bubble, you can't shop indoors with them.

The official government guidance reads: "You must not meet indoors with anybody you do not live with, unless you have formed a support bubble with them (if you are eligible), or another legal exemption applies."

You are able to meet up to six people outside of your household or bubble in the following settings:

  • parks, beaches, countryside accessible to the public, forests
  • public and botanical gardens
  • the grounds of a heritage site
  • outdoor sculpture parks
  • allotments
  • public playgrounds
  • outdoor sports venues and facilities
  • outdoor hospitality venues
  • outdoor attractions
