Lest we forget
When Covid restrictions end, surviving D-Day veterans deserve to go to the British Normandy Memorial to remember fallen comrades who never grew old.
The monument unveiled in France on the 77th anniversary of landings is a fitting if long overdue tribute to the 22,442 who died in one of the world’s greatest military operations and its aftermath.
It is also important that the civilians who died, including those killed by Allied bombing against German defences, are named too, ensuring they are never forgotten.
Even more importantly, we must cherish the heroes who are still with us while we can.

Little Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor has big names to live up to.
