Covid Ireland: Zero PCR test appointments available in Dublin on Christmas Eve

There are zero available appointments for PCR tests in Dublin on Christmas Eve, according to the HSE's online booking portal.

There are currently nine Covid-19 testing centres in Dublin that offer free PCR tests but there are zero slots available.

The 9 testing centres are located in CityWest, Croke Park, Balally, DCU Glasnevin, National Sport and Science Centre, Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport, Ballycoolin, Finglas and Swords Business Campus.

In fact, there are only three counties in Ireland that currently have testing slots available.

As of 8am this morning, there were 40 slots available in Letterkenny, Co Donegal and one appointment apiece in Co Clare and Monaghan.

Appointments will be available on Christmas Day, Damien McCallion, HSE Vaccination has said.

"We will continue to operate throughout Christmas Day and Stephen's Day, albeit with a slightly reduced service," he told RTE's Morning Ireland.

"I appreciate it's difficult for people coming into Christmas, the uncertainty in terms of waiting for a test on certain days in various parts of the country."This surge in testing comes as the much more transmissible Omicron variant begins to be felt in positive case numbers."

Yesterday, another 7,411 cases of Covid-19 were reported even as hospitalisations continue to fall. As of 8am this morning, 393 people were being treated in hospital with Covid-19 with 89 of those in ICU.

1,967,860 boosters have so far been administered.
