Covid Ireland: How to avail of free antigen test kits every week if you work in a school

There has been a lot of debate around the safety of in-person learning in schools across Ireland over the past 18 months.

Before Christmas there were calls to close the schools early, followed by a plea for a delayed return in January - both of which were deemed unnecessary by Government and health officials.

A debate on the cost of antigen tests has also been widely discussed, with some saying they should be entirely subsidised by the Government.

The argument came about after those working in schools or childcare facilities were advised to take regular antigen tests.

Some were unaware that you can avail of these tests, as a member of staff in a school or childcare facility, free of charge from the HSE.

The primary schools and childcare services antigen programme was set up in November and remains live for those looking to be sent antigen tests.

According to the website, “if you have received a letter of approval from your primary school principal or childcare facility manager you can complete this form to request your antigen test kit.”

The letter will contain your school roll number and/or your TUSLA registration number, which you will need for access to the form.

Once you fill out and submit your information, an antigen kit will be sent to whatever address you have provided.

The kits are only available to adults working in schools and carers in other childcare facilities while a separate programme is available for parents to order antigen tests for their kids if they are close contacts
