Covid Ireland: Handy HSE flow-chart tells you if you need to isolate as Omicron cases surge

There has been some confusion about isolation, symptoms and testing surrounding Covid-19 in Ireland in recent days.

A surge in cases means that the seven-day average in Ireland now stands at over 19,000 cases.

The advice from health officials and the Government changes as scientists learn more about coronavirus.

Just this week, Ireland saw the introduction of changes to the rules surrounding isolation and testing.

As of Monday, anyone showing Covid symptoms is asked to return a positive antigen test result before looking for a PCR test.

This came as a huge amount of pressure was put onto the testing system, with thousands of people looking for tests, causing the booking portal to crash at times.

The HSE has put together a handy flow-chart explaining the new rules.

The HSE will send free antigen tests to anyone aged between four and 39-years-old with Covid-19 symptoms.

It's part of new rules in a bid by the Government to ease some of the pressure on the health system when it comes to testing.

Thousands of people are attempting to book PCR tests, with the majority of centres showing no available appointments on the HSE website.

As a result, officials changed the advice for those who are awaiting a test and those who are self-isolating.
