Covid Ireland: 1,470 new cases confirmed by NPHET with 367 people now in hospital

There have been 1,470 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland this evening by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The Department of Health says there are now 367 people in hospital, with 59 of those in ICU.

The figures mark a decrease on Monday's hospital numbers when 384 patients were being treated for the virus, of which 59 were also in ICU.

It comes as the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly hailed the "amazing take-up" of Ireland's vaccine programme across all age groups.

"Remember vaccination offers us the best pathway out of this pandemic and vaccination remains available to everyone 12+," he said.

He provided new figures which detailed the percentage of the population who are inoculated against the virus across various age cohorts.

For those aged 70 and older, 99% of people have been fully vaccinated.

In the 60 to 69 age group, 97% have been fully jabbed, while this stands at 95% for 50 to 59-year-olds.

Some 91% of 40 to 49-year-olds are fully vaccinated, with the figure for 30 to 39-year-olds at 89%.

When it comes to 18 to 29-year-olds, 83% have completed their vaccine schedule.

Meanwhile, 73% of teens aged 16 or 17 have received both jabs.

Just 1% of 12 to 15-year-olds are fully vaccinated, but 53% have received at least one dose so far.
