Liverpool City Region has recorded a 90% increase in covid infections in just seven days.
According to the latest data from Public Health England, Liverpool City Region recorded 38,919 positive covid tests in the seven days ending January 1 - that's 18,505 more positive tests than the seven days before.

This meant that Liverpool City Region's week-on-week percentage change figure was an increase of 91%.
The week-on-week percentage change figures increased in every area of the city region. The rises were: 95% in Knowsley; 72% in Liverpool; 92% in Halton; 99% in St Helens; 94% in Sefton; and, 111% in Wirral.
West Lancashire, Warrington, Cheshire West and Chester also all had rises in infections.
England saw a rise in cases in the week ending January 1. The nation had 962,508 coronavirus cases, which is 261,601 more cases than in the previous seven days.
Liverpool
Liverpool's positive tests came to 11,398 cases in the week ending January 1, which is 4,762 more cases than in the previous week.
This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 72%.
The latest infection rate was 2,277.4 cases per 100,000 people.
Halton
There were 3,335 positive tests over the last week, which is 1,598 more cases than in the previous week.
This means the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 92% in Halton in the week ending January 1.
The latest infection rate is 2,570.1 cases per 100,000 people.
St Helens
There was a total of 4,845 cases in the week ending January 1, which is 2,411 more cases than in the previous week.
The latest infection rate in St Helens is 2,675.4 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 99%.
Knowsley
There was a total of 4,012 cases in the week ending January 1, which is 1,956 more cases than in the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 2,631.6 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 95%.
Wirral
There were 8,528 positive tests in the week ending January 1, which is 4,482 more cases than in the previous week.
Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 111%. The latest infection rate was 2,629.4 cases per 100,000 people.
Sefton
Sefton had a total of 6,801 cases in the week ending January 1, which is a 3,296 more cases than in the previous week.
The latest infection rate is 2,465.0 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases increased by 94% week on week.
Liverpool City Region
There were 38,919 positive tests over in the week ending January 1, which is 18,505 more cases than in the previous week.
This means the week-on-week percentage change increased by 91%. The latest infection rate is 2,285.66 cases per 100,000 people.
West Lancs
West Lancashire recorded 2,639 coronavirus cases in the week ending January 1, which is 1,109 more cases than in the previous seven days.
This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure increased by 73%. The infection rate was 2,304.89 per 100,000 people.
Warrington
There were 4,804 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 1, which is 1,712 more cases than the previous week.
The week-on-week percentage figure increased by 55%. There was an infection rate of 2,294.21 per 100,000 people.
Cheshire West and Chester
There were 7,343 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 1, which is 3,000 more cases than the previous week.
The latest infection rate is 2,135.69 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage increase of 69% in cases.
England
In the week ending January 1, England recorded 962,508 coronavirus cases, which is 261,601 more cases than in the previous seven days.
There was a week-on-week percentage increase of 37% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 1,702.04 per 100,000 people.
