Covid infections rise in 135 areas as lockdown eases across England - full list

Coronavirus infections have risen in 135 areas across England as lockdown is eased across the country, new figures have revealed.

Today marked the next stage of the government's roadmap back to freedom with a number of restrictions lifted amid sunny weather.

People can now meet outdoors in groups of up to six, or two households, and certain sports are allowed again after months of limits.

Latest statistics - correct up to March 25 - show that coronavirus case rates have risen in 43 per cent of England's 315 local areas.

A fall in infections has been registered in 172 (55 per cent) locations, and eight (two per cent) are unchanged.

This is equivalent to 235.4 cases per 100,000 people, according to data from the PA news agency - up from 189.7 per 100,000.

Rotherham has the second highest rate, up from 144.3 to 169.2, with 449 new cases.

Barnsley has the third highest rate, down from 195.7 to 157.2, with 388 new cases.

Areas with biggest week-on-week rise
