The UK reported there were 36,100 new infections on Monday.

In the latest update, there were reports of 49 deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid test.

The vaccination rollout continues to be successful with 93,059,140 jabs administered across the UK.

Of those jabs, 44,466,121 were second vaccines.

On Monday, children aged between 12 and 15 started receiving their shot of the coronavirus vaccine.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said: “Great to see vaccinations starting today for 12-15 year olds.

“Thank you to @NHSEngland staff and volunteers who are doing a fantastic job getting the vaccines rolled out as quickly and safely as possible.”

In other Covid news, the White House confirmed they were lifting the travel ban for double-jabbed travellers from the UK and the EU.

Travellers will need proof of vaccination before boarding a plane to the US.

They will also need proof of a negative Covid test taken within three days of flying, the White House Covid coordinator Jeff Zients confirmed.

Boris Johnson celebrated the news as “a fantastic boost for business and trade”.

He added it was “great that family and friends on both sides of the pond can be reunited once again”.

It was another holiday boost for UK travellers after the Amber list was ditched on Friday.
