Covid infections on the rise in the Liverpool City Region

Positive Covid tests have risen by 15% in the Liverpool City Region.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, the city region as a whole saw 5,739 positive tests in the seven days ending October 9 - 727 more cases than the previous seven days.

This means Liverpool City Region's percentage change week on week increase was 15%.

Only two areas of the city region recorded falls in positive Covid tests. They were: Knowsley and Sefton, with decreases in the percentage change week on week figures of 5% in both areas.

The other four areas of the city region recorded increases in the percentage change week on week figures. They were: Liverpool with a 8% increase; Halton with a 31% rise; St Helens with a 12% rise; and Wirral with a 51% increase.

The percentage change week on week figures rose in the local government areas of Warrington, West Lancashire, and Cheshire West and Chester.

England, as a whole, saw an increase in positive tests in the week ending Ocotber 9. England had 211,878 coronavirus cases - that's 23,392 more cases than in the previous seven days.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 1,451 cases in the week ending October 9, which is 102 more cases than in the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change increased by 8%.

The latest infection rate was 289.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 769 positive tests over the last week, which is 183 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change increased by 31% in the week ending October 9.

The latest infection rate is 592.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Knowsley

There was a total of 465 cases in the week ending October 9, which is 24 fewer case than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 305.0 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases decreased by 5% week on week.

Wirral

There were 1,309 positive tests in the week ending October 9, which is 441 more cases than in the previous week.

Wirral's week-on-week percentage change increased by 51%. The latest infection rate was 403.6 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There were 754 positive tests in the week ending October 9, which is 78 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate was 416.4 cases per 100,000 people. The week-on-week percentage change increased by 12%.

Sefton

There was a total of 991 cases in the week ending October 9, which is 53 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 359.2 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases decreased by 5% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 5,739 positive tests over in the week ending October 9, which is 727 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week on week percentage change increased by 15%. The latest infection rate is 337.04 cases per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 451 coronavirus cases in the week ending October 9, which is 81 more cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week on week percentage increase of 22% in infections. The infection rate was 393.90 per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 1,135 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending October 9, which is 299 more cases than the previous week.

The week on week percentage figure increased by 36%. There was an infection rate of 542.03 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 1,623 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending October 9, which is 273 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 472.05 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week on week percentage increase of 20% in cases.

England

In England in the week ending October 9, there was an infection rate of 374.67 per 100,000 people.

The nation recorded 211,878 coronavirus cases, which is 23,392 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week on week percentage increase of 12% in cases.
