Covid infections in Liverpool surge as positive tests rise by more than 60%

Liverpool's Covid infections have surged as the number of positive tests rose by more than 60% in just seven days.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, Liverpool had 3,827 positive covid infections in the seven days ending December 19 - that's 1,449 more positive tests than the previous seven days.

This meant that Liverpool's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 61%.

Overall in the Liverpool City Region, the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 46%.

In the LCR's five remaining local government areas infections rose by at least a third in each area. The week-on-week percentage change figures rose by: 33% in Knowsley; 34% in Halton; 46% in St Helens; 46% in Sefton; and, 37% in Wirral.

Infections rose in Cheshire West and Chester, Warrington, and West Lancs.

England reported a rise in infections in the week ending December 19. The country recorded 542,931 coronavirus cases in England - that's 226,180 more cases than in the previous seven days.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 3,827 cases in the week ending December 19, which is 1,449 more cases than in the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 61%.

The latest infection rate was 764.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 972 positive tests over the last week, which is 247 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 34% in Halton in the week ending December 19.

The latest infection rate is 749.1 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 1,083 cases in the week ending December 19, which is 342 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in St Helens is 598 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 46%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 972 cases in the week ending December 19, which is 239 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 637.6 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 33%.

Wirral

There were 2,265 positive tests in the week ending December 19, which is 610 more cases than in the previous week.

Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 37%. The latest infection rate was 698.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 1,792 cases in the week ending December 19, which is a 562 more cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 649.5 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases increased by 46% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 10,911 positive tests over in the week ending December 19, which is 3,449 more cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change increased by 46%. The latest infection rate is 640.79 cases per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 637 coronavirus cases in the week ending December 19, which is 170 more cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure increased by 36%. The infection rate was 556.35 per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 1,862 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 19, which is 599 more cases than the previous week.

The week-on-week percentage figure increased by 47%. There was an infection rate of 889.22 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 2,706 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 19, which is 574 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 787.03 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage increase of 27% in cases.

England

In the week ending December 19, England recorded 542,931 coronavirus cases, which is 226,180 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week-on-week percentage increase of 71% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 960.09 per 100,000 people.
