Covid infection rates rise in nine of Greater Manchester's 10 boroughs, latest data shows

Coronavirus infection rates have gone up in nine of Greater Manchester's 10 boroughs, falling only in Wigan, latest figures on Friday revealed.

Salford recorded a weekly rise in cases of 258, the highest increase in the city region.

Rochdale continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester.

The borough recorded a rate of 447.6 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending November 22, which represents the latest data available from the UK Health Security Agency.

The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 296.7 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 379.3 cases per 100,000 population.

That's still lower than the national average, which is currently 433.3 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 10,756 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on November 22.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 801 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up eight per cent in the last week.

The infection rate is higher than the national average in only Rochdale and Salford.

In the week ending November 22, 44 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, seven fewer than the week before.

Wigan saw a total of 1,299 cases in the week ending November 22, which is 51 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of four per cent.

In Wigan , the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 392.8 cases per 100,000 people.

In Bolton , the number of cases is up by seven per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 357.3 cases per 100,000 of the population.

There were 1,030 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending November 22, which was 63 more than the previous seven days.

In Trafford , the latest infection rate is 408.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by four per cent.

A total of 970 people tested positive for Covid in Trafford over the seven days ending on November 22, which is 35 more than the week before.

The trend is up in Bury , where there were 773 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending November 22, which is 79 more than the previous seven days. That is up by 11 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Bury is 405.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

There were 1,160 positive tests over the last week in Salford , which is 258 more than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Salford is up by 29 per cent and the latest infection rate is 441.6 cases per 100,000 people.

In Rochdale , there were 1,001 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending November 22, which is 80 more than the previous seven days.

Rochdale has the highest infection rate in the region.

The infection rate in Rochdale is down slightly compared with the previous day but the week-on-week trend is up by nine per cent.

Manchester is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 323.7 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 1,799 cases recorded in Manchester, which is 110 more than the previous week - a rise of seven per cent.

Oldham , which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 705 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending November 22, which is 61 more than the previous seven days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 296.7 cases per 100,000 people and is up by nine per cent week-on-week.

There was a rise of 15 per cent in cases in Stockport over the week ending November 22, and the infection rate is now 373.2 cases per 100,000 population.

Stockport recorded 1,098 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 144 more than the previous week.

Tameside recorded 921 coronavirus cases, which is 22 more than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Tameside is 405.5 cases per 100,000 people and that is up two per cent week-on-week.
