COVID infection rate on the rise in Perth and Kinross as death toll increases


The COVID infection rate in Perth and Kinross has started to rise again.

The seven-day figure had dropped to its lowest level since August on October 4.

However, it has been steadily rising since then.

The most recent figure for October 10 suggests a rate of 293.6 per 100,000 - the highest since September 29.

The seven-day average number of daily cases is now 63.7, up from 53 on October 3.

There were 446 positive cases in Perth and Kinross in the week up to and including October 10, up from 385 the week before.

The positivity rate has also increased from 6.7 per cent to 7.8 per cent.

Bridge of Earn and Abernethy is recording the highest infection rate of 796.8 per 100,000.

Other neighbourhoods with infection rates over 400 include: Blairgowrie West (531); Glenfarg, Dunning and Rhynd (456.1); Crieff North (454.7); Western Edge (436.6).

Only Alyth is considered to have the virus suppressed for now.

Meanwhile, Perth and Kinross recorded a single COVID death last week.

The latest data from the National Records of Scotland suggest the total number of deaths linked the coronavirus in the region now sits at 286 since the pandemic began.

It followed the previous week when no deaths were recorded for the first time since the week beginning August 9.
