Covid infection rate cases drop by a third across Liverpool City Region

The Liverpool City Region's Covid infection rate has fallen by a third in a week.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, the Covid infection week on week percentage decrease in the city region was 35% in the week ending May 22.

The rate in the six individual areas of the LCR - Liverpool Sefton, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens and Halton - also fell week on week.

Close to the city region, rates also fell in Warrington and in Cheshire West and Chester. But the rates increased in West Lancs.

England overall also saw an increase in the week on week percentage change.

St Helens

There were 16 positive tests in the week ending May 22, which is 20 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate was 8.9 cases per 100,000 people. The week-on-week percentage change in St Helens decreased by 56%.

Wirral

There were 18 positive tests in the week ending May 22, which is five fewer cases than in the previous week.

Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change decreased by 22%. The latest infection rate was 5.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Liverpool

Liverpool had a total of 40 cases in the week ending May 22, which is seven fewer cases than in the previous week. This meant the week-on-week percentage change decreased by 15%.

The latest infection rate was 8.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Sefton

In Sefton, there were 49 cases in the week ending May 22, which is 37 fewer cases than in the previous week. This means that the week-on-week percentage change decreased by 43%.

The latest infection rate was 17.7 per 100,000 people.

Knowsley

There was a total of 12 cases in the week ending May 22, which is one less case than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 8.0 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases decreased by 8% week on week.

Halton

In Halton, there were nine positive tests over the last week, which is nine fewer cases than in the previous week.

There was a week on week percentage decrease in cases of 50% in the week ending May 22.

The latest infection rate was 7.0 cases per 100,000 people.

Liverpool City Region

There were 144 positive tests over in the week ending May 22, which is 79 fewer cases than in the previous week.

This means the week on week percentage change decreased by 35%. The latest infection rate is 8.46 cases per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 18 coronavirus cases in the week ending May 22, which is four more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was an infection rate of 15.75 per 100,000 people, and there was a week on week percentage increase of 29% in cases.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 17 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 22, which is 14 fewer cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 4.96 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week on week percentage decrease of 45% in cases.

Warrington

There were 18 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending May 22, which is five fewer cases than the previous week.

The week on week percentage figure decreased by 22%. There was an infection rate of 8.57 per 100,000 people.

England

In England in the week ending May 22, there was an infection rate of 23.53 per 100,000 people.

England recorded 13,242 coronavirus cases, which is 1,379 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week on week percentage increase of 11% in cases.
