Covid in Scotland: 69 deaths reported in last 24 hours as cases rise by 758

Sixty-nine people with a confirmed case of Covid-19 have passed away in the past 24 hours, bringing Scotland's death toll under this measurement to 6,181.

The latest figures released by the Scottish Government also reveal that 758 new cases were confirmed overnight - making up 7.4% of those tested and bringing the total to 181,291.

Two hundred and sixty one of these were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, while 138 were in Lanarkshire.

Currently there are 1,939 people in hospital with coronavirus (19 less than yesterday), 143 of whom are in intensive care (the same as yesterday).

Meanwhile, 610,778 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 8,345 have received their second dose.

The latest figures come as Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that the current Level 4 lockdown restrictions will continue until "at least" the end of February.

The Scottish Government previously said the lockdown for Level 4 areas - mainland Scotland and some islands areas - would last until at least mid-February.

The First Minister added that she will update Holyrood in two weeks about a possible "careful and gradual" easing of lockdown restrictions around the start of March.
