Covid in Bristol: The age groups with the most cases as 40 workplaces hit by virus

The latest Covid-19 report for Bristol breaks down coronavirus cases by age group.

Bristol City Council's update, released yesterday (February 11), also shows key stats including case rate, Covid inpatients and workplace infections.

The report says 15 per cent of cases are in the under-20 age group, 22 per cent in the 20-29 group, 48 per cent in the 30-59s and 15 per cent in the over-60s.

"Bristol’s rate of 202 new cases per 100,000 population (data from January 30 to February 5), is lower than the previous seven days (260 new cases per 100,000)," the update reads.

"This reduction is reflected in all areas of the city. However, this is still a high level of infection."

It revealed there were 90 educational settings and 40 workplaces across Bristol with coronavirus cases on February 4.

"At February 10, there are 282 people in our local hospitals who have tested positive for Covid-19," the council added.

"Our health and care systems remain under extreme pressure as a result of Covid-19 admissions, winter pressures and other urgent priorities."

Though the number of inpatients is high, it is a significant drop on the 450 people who were battling the virus in Bristol hospitals in mid-January.

"From December 8 to February 7, 190,981 vaccines were administered across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire," the report says.

The update also refers to the launch of surge testing last weekend in response to cases of a mutated virus, a form of the Kent variant which is more infectious than the original Covid-19.

It says: "Mobile testing units and Collect and Drop sites are now open to people who live in specific postcodes. Full details including site locations are here."
