Covid in Bristol: Latest on cases and deaths

The Bristol region has recorded fewer than 30 coronavirus cases for a second day running.

The Government confirmed 29 new cases in the city and surrounding areas on Friday (April 16). It comes after the same number was recorded on Thursday, 38 on Wednesday, 36 on Tuesday and 46 on Monday.

Of the 29 cases recorded in Friday's update, 10 were in the city of Bristol itself, the highest figure in the region.

No coronavirus deaths across the region were announced in the latest figures. This follows zero deaths being confirmed on both Thursday and Wednesday, and one - in South Gloucestershire - confirmed on Tuesday.

The daily figures cover deaths recorded within 28 days of a patient testing positive for the virus.

Here is the latest daily breakdown of cases and deaths for each area in the region:

Cases

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with positive test results from the last 24 hours in brackets.

  • Bristol - 30,648 (10 new cases)
  • North Somerset - 10,006 (5 new cases)
  • South Gloucestershire - 15,132 (9 new cases)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 8,196 (5 new cases)
  • Deaths

    The number of deaths in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new deaths in brackets.

  • Bristol - 468 (-)
  • North Somerset - 307 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire - 355 (-)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 218 (-)
  • Nationwide, the Government said a further 34 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 127,225.

    Wednesday's update also saw a further 2,596 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,383,572.

    In total, 1,452 coronavirus patients were admitted to hospitals across the UK in the week up to April 12.
