Covid-hit Morton v East Kilbride set to go ahead behind closed doors

East Kilbride's clash against Greenock Morton tonight is set to go ahead behind closed doors at Cappielow.

The Premier Sports Cup game was under threat following a Covid outbreak in the Morton squad.

Gus MacPherson's side were forced to forfeit their opener against Stranraer on Saturday.

The Championship side released a statement yesterday informing supporters that ticket sales were suspended as the club discussed whether the game could go ahead with the SPFL.

Lanarkshire Live Sport understands the game will take place tonight but no spectators will be in attendance.

Earlier today, Kilby assistant manager Chris Aitken insisted his players were preparing for the game to go ahead.

He said: "We are preparing for the game as it stands and if we don’t hear differently before 3pm then it’s going ahead.

“We want the game to go ahead but we are just waiting for the green light.

"We’ve done all the work that we need to do and we are really looking forward to the game.

“The players are wanting the game on because it’s a great game for our players and they’ve trained extremely hard through pre-season.
