Covid Glasgow: City's confirmed cases rise by 11,611 in seven days as virus remains 'significant threat'

Amid a rise of Covid-19 cases across the country, Glasgow understandably, as Scotland's largest city, has been hard hit.

Record levels of Coronavirus were recorded by the Scottish Government last week, with a new daily high of 7,113 cases set on Sunday.

The Scottish Government cautioned the high figures included "a larger than usual proportion of specimens that were processed more than 48 hours ago. This is due to the high volumes of tests currently being received".

However, amid the sharp rise in cases, Health Secretary Humza Yousaf urged under-40s to get their second vaccine and not "leave the job half done".

Mr Yousaf said the virus is "still a significant threat" and urged people in that age group who have still to receive their second dose to book an appointment or go to a drop-in clinic.

And Scottish Government figures show there's been a five-figure sum of Covid-19 cases in Glasgow in the latest seven day period, with a total of 11,611 infections registered throughout the last week.

Here's a breakdown of cases in Glasgow over last seven days:
