COVID forces more school closures in Maitland and Lake Macquarie

THREE more Hunter schools will close for Thursday as COVID-19 continues to hamper the resumption of face-to-face learning.

A similar number of campuses have been shut after COVID-19 exposures each day this week, the first time students have headed back to the classroom since the August 5 lockdown.

Unions say teachers are "definitely anxious" over the prospect of rolling shutdowns, with parents navigating a waiting game.

Maitland East Public School and Jewells Public School joined Francis Greenway High School on the latest list from the NSW Department of Education.

Carrington Public School will re-open after a similar exposure risk prompted authorities to close it on Wednesday for deep cleaning and contact tracing.

All staff and students at closed schools are asked to self-isolate and follow the NSW Health guidelines.

"NSW Health has requested anyone who has been unwell or if you develop any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics," the education department said in a statement.
