Covid figures today Scotland: 1,122 new cases overnight with 105 in the Lothians

A total of 1,122 new coronavirus cases have been reported across Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The 1,122 new cases represent 7.1 per cent of all of the tests carried out for Covid-19 yesterday.

The First Minister has stated that the new restrictions are "starting to have an effect" on transmissions, and may have halted a larger rise in new cases.

Nicola Sturgeon was joined by Health Secretary Jeane Freeman and National Clinical Director Professor Jason Leitch after she announced last week that Scotland will enter into a new five tier system.

Out of the new cases reported today, 105 are in the Lothians, with a further 428 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 274 in Lanarkshire and 97 in Ayrshire and Arran.

The other cases are split amongst the other nine health boards, taking the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 57,874.

Hospital admissions have also seen a further increase, with 1052 patients now being treated for the virus, an increase of three from yesterday.

90 patients are also in intensive care units, an increase of four since Sunday.

Sadly, the First Minister also reported one further death, taking the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 2701.
