Covid figures Scotland today: 1167 new cases reported overnight with 114 in the Lothians

A total of 1167 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

New figures published this afternoon have stated that the 1167 new cases represent 17.6 per cent of those tested for the virus on Friday.

The number reported on Saturday is similar to that on Friday, with both figures reaching over 1100 new cases.

Out of the new cases, 114 have been identified in the NHS Lothian region, with a further 435 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 346 in Lanarkshire.

Currently, tighter restrictions are in place across the central belt including those health boards in attempts to curb any further spread of the virus.

All restaurants, bars and pubs have been forced to close for a 16 period which is currently under review. Indoor gatherings are also not permitted across the whole of the country.

On Friday Nicola Sturgeon said that bars and restaurants in the central belt may not reopen a week on Monday.

Her statement came as a response to a question from David Henderson from the BBC.

He said that "across the central belt bars and restaurants will remain closed until a week on Monday...but what comes next is not at all clear."

Hospital admissions have also seen a rise today (Saturday), with 675 patients now being treated for coronavirus, including 62 in an intensive care unit.

Sadly, 15 further deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.
