EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The COVID-19 bowl resulted in a Jets’ 26-21 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, which featured plenty of fun moments in the battle between the No. 1 and the No. 2 overall picks.
Sunday afternoon’s excitement was capped by Trevor Lawrence’s fourth-down throw to Marvin Jones in the end zone, which was broken up by Javelin Guidry. That sealed the win for Gang Green.
But it was Zach Wilson’s highlight reel, not the Jaguars’ rookie, that electrified MetLife Stadium, like: his pass to backup tackle Conor McDermott for a touchdown and his 52-yard rushing touchdown.
The Jets walked into MetLife with 19 players on the COVID-19 reserved list and Robert Saleh tested positive for the virus. Prominent starters in Quinnen Williams, John Franklin-Myers, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Michael Carter II, Foley Fatukasi, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Ashytn Davis.
The Jaguars were without three starters in standout pass rusher Josh Allen, receiver Laviska Shenault and guard Ben Bartch. Allen led the Jaguars in sacks with 5.5 and Shenault Jr. is second on the Jaguars in receiving with 544 yards.
