PUNE: The number of people recovering from Covid-19 continued to stay ahead of new cases in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) on Friday, with the gap between the two figures narrowing down marginally. Besides, 15 more people succumbed to the infection in PMR in the last 24 hours.
As many as 7,160 recoveries were recorded in PMR on Friday as compared to 4,159 cases. While 3,374 people recovered in the PMC limits, the tally stood at 2,256 in the Pimpri Chinhwad areas and 1,530 in the rural parts. Among new cases, the PMC and PCMC areas added over 2,100 and 1,100 patients, respectively, while the rural parts continued to report less than 1,000 cases.
The region’s active caseload further dropped to 39,739 on Friday evening. About 95% patients (38,032) were in home isolation of the total active cases, while 1,707 were in hospital isolation, a report released by district health officer Bhagwan Pawar stated.
An official from the PMC health department said, “We are monitoring the cases. The active caseload in PMC limits has dropped to 20,000. Of these, only 4.5% patients are admitted in hospitals. Daily testing has been around 9,000-10,000.”
The DHO’s report stated that 21,178 samples were tested in the region on Friday. The day’s positivity rate for PMR was recorded at 19.6%.
