Covid causes chaos at Gino D’Acampo's new Quayside restaurant after staff isolate

TV chef Gino D’Acampo's new Quayside restaurant fell victim to Covid as it was forced to close due to staff self-isolating.

The restaurant is located inside the city's latest hotel - INNSiDE Newcastle - which boasts stunning views of the River Tyne.

However while the hotel has remained open for guests, the celebrity chef's restaurant had to temporarily shut due to staffing issues brought on by the fast-spreading virus.

Cases have rocketed across the North East in recent weeks , causing disruption to the likes of Nissan as well as several of the region's schools.

The restaurant has since reopened, with the venue's general manager Fernando Gonzalez stating: "We took the proactive decision to temporarily close the restaurant earlier this week, further to members of the team having had to isolate, which presents a number of operational challenges.

“It’s unfortunate, but as always the welfare of our guests and our people is our number one priority.

“As we continue to navigate our way through the easing of lockdown, we are prepared for such events and are committed to operating safely and responsibly. The support and understanding of guests is much appreciated.

“We’re pleased to be back open and, as always, have the highest level of safety measures in place.

“I’d like to thank the local authorities for their ongoing support and guidance.”

Owned by Spain's biggest hotel chain Meliá Hotels International, INNSiDE Newcastle has six floors and boasts Newcastle-themed artwork.
