Latest R rate

The South West's coronavirus infections are shrinking by a possible five per cent a day, the latest government figures show.

And the UK's Covid R rate has dropped to its lowest level since July.

Scientists said the virus reproduction value - known as R - was estimated to be between 0.7 and 0.9 in the region, which is the same as England's overall R rate.

It means that on average every 10 people who have contracted the virus will only spread it to between seven to nine others.

Nowhere across England has an R above one, but North East and Yorkshire has the highest number - 0.8 to 0.9.
