Covid cases linked to Stirling bar outbreak reach 40 with more pubgoers urged to get tested

There are now 40 positive Covid cases linked to an "significant outbreak" at a Stirling bar.

NHS Forth Valley chiefs are urging anyone who attended the bar between Friday May 21 and Sunday May 30 to get tested as soon as possible as they attempt to clamp down on further spread of cases.

It is thought students from a different universities and colleges are among the number.

This extends the previous date range for testing which has previously applied up to Wednesday May 26 and follows confirmation of further positive Covid tests over the weekend.

The more than 40 cases linked to the bar have all taken place within this ten-day period, prompting the need for extra dates to be added to ensure that all potential bases are covered by testing.

The cases are being reported both locally in Forth Valley and also further afield - with a pair of testing sites in place across Stirling for those looking to get tested.

They are located at the Engine Shed behind Stirling railway station and at the University of Stirling campus and can be booked through NHS Inform on 0800 028 2816 or booked online via the GOV.UK website.

NHS Forth Valley Consultant in Public Health Dr Henry Prempeh said: “This is a significant outbreak and cases may well rise further.

"Our Test and Protect team are following up with a number of people who have been identified as close contacts of those who have already tested positive however we want everyone who attended the bar during these dates to get a PCR test to help prevent further spread.

“If you are identified as a close contact and your test is negative you must continue to isolate for 10 days however if you attended the bar during these dates and have not been contacted direct by Test and Protect then you do not require to self-isolate if your PCR test is negative, providing you do not develop any symptoms.”
